Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach awarded Woman of the Year in Dubai




Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, who is the most followed Miss Universe queen ever on Instagram with over 11.5 million followers, stunned guests last December 6 as she attended the luxury Xpedition Annual Gala Awards in the heart of the Dubai Desert at Sonara Camp.




The beauty queen and supermodel, looked radiant as she arrived in head-to-toe Dubai-based couture label Amato Couture and engaged in a range of exciting activities including camel riding in the desert and archery. Pia was accompanied by pop superstar Bailey May of international group Now United- who have received over 1.5 billion views on their music videos. The pair engaged in archery, with both receiving praise from the distinguished guests for their impeccable archery skills with both superstars getting bullseye shots.


The awards show was hosted by the graceful and elegant Miss Earth Angelia Ong, who also hails from The Philippines and was joined by co-host Oli London- who is both Europe’s most successful K-Pop star and a famed international TV personality.




Miss Wurtzbach was honoured with the Inspirational Woman of the Year Award- Phenomenal for her incredible charity work with different charities including Smile Train who were also the partner for last night's event.



Pop sensation Bailey May was awarded with the Young Achiever Award for his incredible talent being one of the star members of international pop group Now United. He was praised for his incredible talent as well as being a positive role model for his millions of fans.




Other notable guests at the ceremony included His Excellency Mr Yaqoob Al Ali, Her Excellency Hjaceelyn Quintana, the Philippine Ambassador to the UAE and the events founder and magazine Editor-in-chief Josh Yugen. Yugen is famed for bringing some of the biggest A-list celebrities to the Middle East. He is also the man behind the stunning Amato Couture fashion show at Arab Fashion Week and has had phenomenal celebrities grace the cover of his magazine including Bollywood superstar Urvashi Rautela, Natalia and Miss Universe Catriona Gray.




One of the major sponsors of the event, Emirates, resumed flights to the Philippines in June, to the three gateways, Manila, Clark and Cebu. Pia’s visit to Dubai serves as a kickoff partnership of Emirates to boost confidence among travellers from all over the world, by highlighting its safety measures, and gain back the tourism business in the UAE.




The awards ceremony marks the 2nd time it has been held and the event followed strict UAE government Covid guidelines to keep all of the guests and attendees secure and safe.
