X|BEAUTY: Get That Perfect WFH Makeup Look With Fenty Beauty Global Makeup Artist, Hector Espinal

Hector Espinal: You’re probably scaling back your makeup, but still want to look pulled together for your work video conference calls or a Facetime date. You can hide sweatpants, but your face is going to be on camera, so you’ve got to look good!

My go-to WFH makeup look is ‘no makeup, makeup’ which is focused on three things: Flawless complexion, opening up the eyes, and shaping your brows, which frame your face:

  • Starting with complexion, you want to even out your skin and add warmth and dimension to your face. It’s important to start with the Primer (Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch for combo skin, Mattifying for oily skin or Hydrating for dry skin), to even out your skins texture and make sure your foundation lasts all day. Next, for a ‘no makeup, makeup’ daytime application, all you need is 1-2 pumps of the Pro Filt’r Foundation. I recommend using Fenty Beauty’s Full-Bodied Foundation Brush or Sponge – the tools make a huge difference in allowing you to get flawless, natural-looking coverage. Then use the Pro Filt’r Concealer to spot conceal any blemishes and cover dark under-eye circles. Next, spritz your face with the What it Dew Makeup Refreshing Spray, this will provide hydration to the skin while giving you a subtle dew for skin that actually looks like skin.

  • Next, you want to add some color and dimension back into your skin - the new Cheeks Out Cream Blush and Bronzershave the perfect creamy lightweight texture that melts into your skin and gives you a really natural glow. Apply the Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer to the high points of the face where the sun would naturally hit including your forehead, temples, cheeks and bridge of the nose. Next, add a wash of color to the apples of your cheeks with the Cheeks Out Cream Blush, using the Face Shaping Brush 125 or your fingertips. My current favorite shades are Petal Poppin’, a soft baby pink and Summertime Wine, the perfect soft berry with shimmer. If you do want a little extra shimmer, you can apply a touch of the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter as well! My go to shade at the moment is Afternoon Snack Mo’ Hunny – it’s the perfect bronzed sheen.

  • Now that your complexion looks flawless, you want to shape and fill your brows, because brows are so important to framing your face! Using the Fenty Beauty Brow MVP Brow Pencil, fill in and style brows starting with a darker color to fill in the arch first, creating light strokes that go down to the tail or end of the brow. The tail of your brow can be filled in with a deeper color so that it is more defined, but as you move towards the head of the brow closer to the nose, switch to a lighter shade. It’s important to do light strokes in the direction of your existing brow hairs so they blend in seamlessly, and then use the paddle bush to blend the pencil in, removing harsh lines. You can also finish with a wax or gel to hold everything in place.

  • Finally, if you don’t want to do a full eye makeup look while at home, I would definitely still use a mascara to open up and accentuate the eyes. The Full Frontal Mascara, has a genius brush with a “fat” and “flat” side, so you can lengthen your lashes AND get insane volume. Since this launched earlier this year, I swear my lashes have never looked better!

  • The last thing I do, is use Invisimatte Blotting Powder to set my face makeup, and remove unwanted shine, especially in my T-Zone. I recommend setting in strategic areas like under the eyes, nose, and T-Zone. Lastly, swipe on some Gloss Bomb because it’s hydrating, with a natural touch of color and shine. I think it’s an essential for ANY look, but especially perfect on its own for a WFH ‘No Makeup, Makeup’ look!
